Dec 31, 2013wikipedia suggests that kip is derived from kipper a smoked herring fish. Kip is more like the informal version of nap in bre. Kip-sio, on the other hand, probably contains a completely unrelated kip (possibly 箕 jī ‘winnowing basket’, though i don't know if that originally ended in a -p).
