Kofi atta annan[a] (8 april 1938 – 18 august 2018) was a ghanaian diplomat and statesman who served as the seventh secretary-general of the united nations from 1997 to 2006. Kofi annan was a nobel peace prize laureate, secretary-general of the united nations between 1997 and 2006, and the founding chair of the kofi annan foundation, which he set up to mobilise political. The nobel peace prize 2001 was awarded jointly to united nations (un) and kofi annan "for their work for a better organized and more peaceful world"
